Introduction

Yggdrasil is an encrypted mesh-based networking protocol that is self-healing and scalable by design. There is no centralized authority or control plane, instead public keys are used as unique addresses. Currently, the Public Yggdrasil Network has more than 7000 active nodes worldwide.

Yggdrasil can be used in homelabs as well - it lets clients easily connect to each other without the hassle of DHCP and DNS, and provides strong authentication guarantees. Just knowing the Yggdrasil IPv6 address is enough, no need to send invite links or manage logins!

At Hoppy, we provide a private relay service to help connect any parts of your Yggdrasil network that can't reach each other. Our relay service masquerades as HTTPS traffic to help you bypass any firewalls or traffic blocks. The Hoppy WireGuard servers can also be accessed through the Yggdrasil endpoints, if necessary.

Usage

Yggdrasil IPv6 addresses are generated from the unused 200::/7 range. A new IPv6 address and keypair can be created at any time. Once Yggdrasil is running, all connections to and from other Yggdrasil IPv6 addresses will be routed through the end-to-end encrypted "overlay" network. The Yggdrasil Private Relay is only used when there is no direct connection between the two devices.
